The current International Ocean Discovery Program will end 31 December 2024, and a new programme, the International Ocean Drilling Programme-3, will start 1 January 2025.

The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is an international marine research collaboration that explores Earth's history and dynamics using ocean-going research platforms to recover data recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks and to monitor subseafloor environments. The programme will end on 31 December 2024.

ECORD, the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ecord.org), which is a management structure of 15 members (14 European countries and Canada), has now made an agreement with Japan to build a new joint scientific ocean drilling programme: the International Ocean Drilling Programme – IODP3 (IODP-cubed). The programme will begin immediately after the conclusion of the current IODP.

Several other countries will join as associate members of IODP-3.
